Delicious, fat and not appropriate in any known diet! This potato gratin is my guilty pleasure. I love it, when this dish is on the menu I prefer to solely eat the gratin and maybe just a bit of salad but I don’t really need anything else. Just this gratin is enough for me. You can wake me up for this! And it’s easy to prepare as well, personally I always prefer to prepare the dish in single portion baking dishes, just because it looks very cute but you can also make it in one big dish of course. The first time that you are preparing it, it’s important to keep an eye on the time. Normally they need to bake for about 40 – 50 minutes but every oven is slightly different.

Ingredients for 4 pers.:

  • 6 large potatoes
  • 250 ml whip cream
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 75 gr grated cheese
  • pepper

How to prepare it:

Pre-heat your oven to 200 degrees. Start by greasing the baking dish (or dishes) with some butter.

Peel of the skin of the potatoes. Grate small flat leaves of the potatoes with a cheese slider or a paring knife.

Take a small bowl, peel off the skin of the garlic, cut the garlic in half and take out the root. Squeeze the garlic into the bowl. Add the grated cheese and a decent amount of pepper. Stir well.

Now we start building the gratin. Start by covering the bottom of the baking dish(es) with a layer of potato leaves. It doesn’t need to be perfect but make sure that there are no real gaps. Once you’ve finished the first layer, add a bit of the cheese mix on top, now you add the second layer of potato leaves and a bit of cheese mix. Repeat this for about 3 times and make sure you end with the cheese. Poor the whip cream over the potatoes. Make sure that there is enough whip cream in all the dishes.

Cover the dishes with some aluminum foil. De dish needs to bake in the oven for about 50 minutes. After 30 minutes you can take away the foil so that the top of the gratin can become crispy and golden brown.
